Salix Matsudana Tortosoa – Snake
- This is a beautiful unusual ornamental willow with glossy olive/brown/green twisted stems.
- It can be grown as an ornamental small tree/shrub, excellent for winter colour.
- The stems can be cut regularly for floristry and craft material – beautiful as wreaths and interior decorations.
You will receive freshly harvested hardwood cuttings – these are so easy to plant and grow – they just need to be inserted into pots of soil or straight into the ground where they are to grow. Being dormant they will sit waiting for the soil to warm and then in the spring they will take root and begin to shoot.
Willows are quick growing, this variety will grow about 4/5ft in a year, if left to grow over some years it will branch and become a small tree with twisting branches, or it can be pruned regularly over the years to keep as a small multi stemmed shrub – cutting regularly gives the brightest strongest colour to the stems especially in the winter.
Willows are very tolerant of many soil and growing conditions, but will thrive in moist and sunny sites.
