Description

~~~A specially selected mix of BASKETRY Willow Cuttings –  25cm long hardwood cuttings ready for potting/planting.
There will be a mixture of varieties that are especially desirable for basket weaving. There will be a range of colours, textures and growth habits. Yellows, green, olive, red, burghandy, purple, – Particularly slim and slender or tall and malleable varieties. The willows will be freshly cut and labelled.
These are so easy to plant and grow – they just need to be inserted into pots of soil or straight into the ground where they are to grow. Being dormant they will sit waiting for the soil to warm and then in the spring they will take root and begin to shoot.
– Willows would wish to have a minimum of 30cm spacing between each plant if making a willow bed or hedge, I usually plant 45cm apart in the beds at out Nursery.
Willows are quick growing, most of these varieties will grow about 6-9ft in a year, it should be pruned regularly over the years to be kept as multi stemmed shrubs. Cutting regularly gives the brightest strongest colours and thinnest, straightest stems for weaving. If left to grow over some years it will branch and become a small tree.
Many of these willows be grown just as an ornamental and wildlife friendly shrubs too, excellent for winter colour and their interesting buds and catkins – and highly valuable for early pollinators. The stems can be cut regularly for floristry and craft material – beautiful as wreaths and interior decorations.
Willows are very tolerant of many soil and growing conditions, but will thrive in moist and sunny sites. The willow is grown at our nursery in South Devon where we have 25+ willows of different colours and types for structures, basketry, craft, wildlife and ornamental purposes.
